Piece for Laptop, Oyster/Pacemaker, and Electric Oud (2014)

This performance was an attempt to question the idea of performing ‘traditional’ music and exotic tropes. The performance, as part of the annual Bukchon Music Festival (Seoul, South Korea), was for laptop (running a computerized voice questioning the performativity of ‘traditional musics’ alongside other electronic sounds), a self-made light-sensitive instrument called the Oyster/Pacemaker (tuned in this case to an anecdotal pentatonic scale in reference to misunderstandings of Korean/East Asian traditional music), and an electric oud.
