군도(群嶋) / Archipelago for Gayageum, Empty-handed Percussionists, Chorus-Narrators (2014)

Coming from an island nation and having an academic background in Maritime Historiography, one of the themes Hasan Hujairi explores in his works is the sea. In this piece, Hasan Hujairi explores likening the performers on stage to the cartography of a group of islands, varying the relationships and disconnections of those islands. This piece makes use of one gayageum and a group of percussionists who clap as symbols of migration and origins through referencing small elements from his own past works, pearl diving traditions of Bahrain, contemporary art music techniques, and his interest in Korean traditional music. This piece was premiered in 2014 and was performed by Park Kyungso on Gayageum, and Go Myeongjin, Woo Minyeong, Han Sonip, and Lee Yujin on Percussion and Voice.
