While participating in the 2014 Vancouver Art Biennale art residency program, which placed focused on public art, Hasan Hujairi compiled a book called The Squamish Working Papers. The impetus behind writing the book was to highlight the importance of public art projects acknowledging the space and context in which they are placed. Over the course of the residency, Hasan Hujairi decided to engage with the Squamish Public Library, avoiding large-scale monumental work due to two major happenings in the local community at the time: The government of Vancouver acknowledged that they were on unceded territory of the Squamish, Musqeum, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, and, public school teachers were on strike. Over the course of the residency, Hasan Hujairi ran an education program at the Public Library and engaged in public lectures on the history of Squamish. He also presented a sound art performance based on field recordings and conversations he had in the local community.
