The joys of pre-exam people watching
Published by hasan June 8th, 2007 in daily life.I’m about to walk into the last of my midterm exams - Macroeconomics. It’s strange to admit this but, sometimes, looking at an exam paper in Japanese - and probably because I’m not as sensitive to it as I am to Arabic or English - things seem to be a little less stressful.
I followed the advice my father always gives me before any exam: I had plenty of rest the night before, had a good breakfast and I feel calm.
Before coming to campus (where I am typing up this entry right now), I stopped by the local Starbucks. To my left was a slouched, local businessman, dressed in a suit (minus the tie), apparently waiting for someone. A while later, another businessman (WEARING a tie) dashes towards him appologetically; they exchange cards and get straight to business. The tardy, tie-clad businessman had some copies of some powerpoint slides - printed IN color, of course - and was trying to sell some idea to the slouching, bored businessman across the table from him. The tie-less businessman picks up his cellphone and has a conversation with someone on the other side. (Then again, he might have just been pretending.) Seemed like he rejected the offer, but at least they both seemed to enjoy their coffee.
Ah, the joys of people watching before an exam.
Anyways, I’m off to take this exam. I know I can’t afford to mess this exam up, though. We’ll see how it goes.
