On Welcome Parties and Fast Fingers

Last night, we had our first official “Welcome Party” at our dormitory, after an hour-long orientation about the facilities within our dorm building. It was quite fun.

The Welcome Party was fun; probably the first time I really had fun at a party, mingling with people I’m meeting for the first time. I made small talk with some Chinese, Taiwanese, Kazakhstanis, Uzbeks, Iranis and a Mongolian ;) I think the highlight of the party - to me - was when I ran upto my room to fish out an old Irani CD to give the Iranis a small surprise - I found this CD that has a pop song that was famous in the early 90s, that, for some reason is still played in every single wedding or party I’ve been to in Bahrain. Sandy’s “dokhtar ahwazi” is such a funky track, isn’t it?

When I woke up this morning, at 6.00am (I have no idea why I woke up that early) I practiced some speed techniques on the Oud until 10.00am (when the local pool opens up) and swam laps for an hour and a half. After that, I ran over to the grocery store that didn’t have a wide enough selection of spaghetti (sadly) - got some junk and ran back to the dorm to cook up whatever type of *spaghetti* I can come up with. Half the spaghetti ended up in the belly, the other half in the garbage can. Am I turning Anorexic? I wonder.

Hasan, you and anorexia in one sentence define the term oxymoron in the dictionary.

    Odd,

You know me too well ;) I had that comment you sent me coming, didn’t I? (That’s why I capitalized the ‘A’ in Anorexic, by the way.)
